The stunning El Palmeral Park is on the outskirts of the Alicante, heading south along the Avenida de Elche(N332) towards Gran Alacant and contains a waterfall, lakes and hundreds of palm trees, no wonder its often used as a film location and this area is definitely a must see at any time of the day. Take a delightful early morning stroll along its footpaths lined with colourful flowerbeds, ponds and fountains. Or around mid-day take advantage of the picnic areas before splashing about in the boating lake or tackling the BMX cycle track! In the evenings you can wander down to the summerhouse where regular family entertainment, including marionettes and a children's theatre, is held throughout the summer.
Covering some 72,000m2, El Palmeral was opened in October 1997 and what makes it different from other Palmeral parks such as Elche, is that faces the sea. The park El Palmeral is a great place to spend the morning or afternoon with children, because it has large areas to walk, run and play among its abundant palm trees and walkways. It features an artificial lake and rivers that can be crossed by wooden bridges. There is plenty of parking and facilities too.
Stroll around the beautiful gardens and walk behind the waterfall. There is also a boating lake in the park which is free, as long as you have photo ID. There are outdoor gyms, plenty of play equipment for the children, a cafeteria with plenty of shade from the hot Alicante sun, also a shaded picnic area if you prefer. There is also a petanque park, sports track and giant board games - all of which is completely free! All in all an absolute hidden gem in Alicante! Open every day from 09.00 - 23.00.
